9 Most Powerful Copywriting Strategies For Bloggers

#1 Simplicity is The King

There’s a simple rule in blogging…

The more easily your audience can understand your language, the faster you’ll grow.

It’s the foundation of all the strategies that you’re going to learn in this post.

This strategy might seem quite simple but trust me if you don’t follow this basic rule you’re never going to succeed in blogging or on anything that you’ll write online.

You could be a great writer but if your audience doesn’t understand what you’re trying to say then your writing would look like a piece of crap.

If you’re a regular reader of my blog or just go through some of my blog posts, then you’ll see that all of my blog posts are written in very simple language.

Soo simple that even a 5th-grade student can read it without any issue.

There’s a great quote by Eugene Schwartz, one of the great copywriters of all time.

“Write to the chimpanzee brain. Simply. Directly.”

If you can understand what he tries to say then you’ve already won half of the game.

So the main point is:

Whenever you’ll write any blog posts, you have to make sure that you’re not using any complex Words and sentences…

…And your language is easily understandable even for a 5th-grade student.

Before I go to the next strategy, here are my top 3 tips you can follow to make your blog posts easily readable:

  • Use simple words.
  • Try to keep your sentences short and sweet.
  • Write like you’re talking to a real person.

Now let’s move on to the next step.

#2 Follow The AIDA Formula

Have you ever heard about the AIDA formula?

If you’ve studied marketing or if you’re in the marketing field for a long time then I’m pretty sure you’ve heard about this formula.

But if you haven’t heard about this then let me break down for you what the heck is this AIDA formula.

The AIDA Formula

AIDA simply means:

  • A = Attention.
  • I = Interest.
  • D = Desire.
  • A = Action.

This is a very proven formula that copywriters have been using for a very long time.

The concept of AIDA is created by Elias St. Elmo Lewis in 1898 and now it has become a popular marketing formula in today’s age.

Now let’s talk about how we can use the AIDA formula while writing our blog posts.

As a blogger, you don’t have to follow the AIDA formula for your whole blog post.

Instead, you can implement this formula in the introduction of your blog post.

Here’s an example of an intro that I’ve written using the AIDA formula.

You can see the first line of the intro is attention-grabbing and has the ability to quickly grabs someone’s attention.

You have to focus more on the attention part of this rule because if you grab someone’s attention in this busy world where people don’t have an attention span of 8 seconds, then you’ve won half of the race.

Let’s take an example of yourself.

Would you read an article online if the first line of that article isn’t grabbing your attention?

No…right?

In simple words, the first rule of the AIDA formula can make or break your whole efforts.

Now once you got your audience’s attention, it’s time to build up interest in their mind about the topic or your article so that it glued them to your blog post.

After that, you have develop a strong desire in their mind.

And once you’ve followed all of these three rules, you have to encourage your reader to take an action.

In case of a blog post introduction, you say something “You’re just a few scrolls away to get some of the best strategies that you won’t find anywhere”.

That’s how you can use the AIDA formula to make your blog post introduction attention-grabbing and persuade people to read your post.

So now let’s move on to the next strategy.

#3 Ask Questions To Keep Your Readers Engage

Questions are the most powerful tool to keep your readers engage throughout your post.

Do you know why?

Why questions are powerful

Because human brains are wired to look for answers to the questions they’ve been asked.

According to proponents of neuro-linguistic programming, questions create an open loop in the reader’s brain, and once an open loop is created, the brain keeps looking for an answer to close that loop.

Are you aware of this huge psychological weapon?

To be honest, I got to know about this secret strategy a year back and since then I always try to inject this technique into all of my blog posts.

If you read my blog posts carefully (or even this post) then you’ll see that I’ve already used this strategy a couple of times.

Use questions examples

And the best part about this strategy is, your readers won’t even know that you are using a psychological trick to keep them engaged in your article.

Isn’t it amazing?

So whenever you write your next article, always try to inject some kind of questions throughout your blog post for persuading people to read.

#4 Use Power Words Throughout Your Blog Post

I think I don’t have to tell you about the power of WORDS.

As a blogger, you connect with your audience, tell your story, and show your expertise through words.

But repeating the same words can be boring sometimes.

For you and your readers as well.

That’s why you have to use power words in your content.

Don’t know what power words are?

Power words (or you can also say trigger words) are the words that copywriters have been using for a very long time to psychologically evoke people’s emotional response.

It does not just help to keep people engaged, but it also helps to boost conversion.

Here’s some great example of power words:

  • Life-changing.
  • Magical.
  • Breathtaking.
  • Remarkable.
  • Unbelievable.
  • Unbeatable.
  • Jaw-dropping.
  • Elite.
  • Insiders Only.
  • Money-saving.
  • Kickass.
  • Exclusive.
  • High-paying.

You can also take some words from these massive collections of Power words for using it in your content:

Not only on the body of your content, but you can also use these words on your headline, homepage, sales page, and lead magnets as well.

#5 Your Headline Determines 90% of Your Blogging Success

All the top bloggers have one thing in common…

…They know how to craft a headline that persuades people to read their blog posts.

But the truth is:

Doesn’t matter how valuable and high quality your blog post is, if your headline sucks, no one is going to read that.

Here’s a mind-blowing fact:

On average, 8 out of 10 people will only read your headline and only 2 out of 10 will read your content.

Even Gene Schwartz (Master copywriter) spent almost an entire week writing the first 50 words of a sales page.

And that 50 words are usually the headline and the first paragraph.

So you can understand the importance of headlines.

Let’s take viral sites for example.

You’ll see all the viral sites or even viral content have great and exciting headlines.

Viral headline demos

Headlines are basically a bridge between your audience and your content.

That’s why you have to make sure that your bridge is strong enough so that it can attract more people to your content.

Here are some tips you can follow while crafting your headline:

  • Write 3 – 5 versions of headlines for each article and choose the best among them.
  • Split Your Headlines While Sharing it on Social Media.
  • Use power words in your headline.
  • Add numbers and special characters in your headline.
  • Add current year or month in your headline because it helps the user to understand that this article is fresh.
  • Your headline should reflect what benefit your audience is going to get from that blog post.
  • Ask a question in your headline.

On top of these tips, you can also implement the four U’s approach while writing your headline.

And that four U’s approach is:

  • Useful.
  • Urgency.
  • Unique.
  • Ultra-specific.

Crafting winning headlines is not hard.

With just a few simple techniques and tweaks you can also write winning headlines for your blog posts without breaking your head.

#6 Add Extra Flavor in Your Blog Post With a Story

Everyone loves stories!

Right?

Human beings tend to connect more with stories than any other thing in this world.

Stories evoke our emotions.

Stories inspire us.

Stories help us to connect with another person.

If I say in simple words:

Stories are just powerful.

And if you’re not using stories in your content then you’re making a huge mistake.

Just read some of the most popular sales pages, landing pages, or blog posts.

You’ll see all of them would have some kind of stories in them.

And do you know why all leading bloggers, copywriters, and marketers use stories in their content?

Because stories help them to connect with their audience.

Stories also create a sense of belonging in readers’ minds and thus it helps the reader to trust you more.

Also, stories are a great way to teach people because stories are super easy to remember.

In fact, Psychologist Jerome Bruner’s research suggests that human brains tend to remember something 20 times more if they’ve listened to or read a story.

I know now you might be thinking “But how can I create a story? I’m not a storyteller”.

Well, you don’t have to be a storyteller to create a story.

And you don’t have to necessarily create a story either.

Because you can just share your own story, your personal experiences, or something that you feel.

It’s just so freaking easy to include a story in your blog posts.

#7 Back Your Claim With Examples

I have a secret magic trick that will make you a better blogger.

And that is – Always back your claims with EXAMPLES.

Examples are powerful because it helps the reader to understand better what you are actually saying.

And it builds up your authority as well.

Just look at any of my blog posts, you’ll see all of my blog posts have some kind of examples.

Here’s an example of that:

Share examples

And not just me, one of the leading bloggers Brian Dean from backlinko also uses this technique throughout his blog posts.

This post that you’re reading right now also has tons of examples.

So in short:

Always include examples with the claim you’re making so that readers can understand it without burning too much of their brain calories.

#8 Know About Your Audience

You can’t write a better blog post if you don’t know who your audience is.

It’s the most basic yet most important task you have to accomplish when you’re starting your blog.

If you don’t know who your audience is, then it’s going very difficult for you to convey the right message to the right person.

You don’t need to conduct market research and gather data for knowing your audience.

You can know who is your ideal audience just by answering these few questions.

  • What will be the age of my ideal audience?
  • What are their job titles?
  • What are their interests?
  • What are their pain points and challenges?
  • What kind of questions are they asking?
  • What kind of content do they consume?
  • What influencers and brands would they be likely to follow?
  • Where do they hang out online?

Now take a pen and paper and try to answer these questions.

Once you answer these questions, you’ll get a brief understanding of who is your ideal audience.

After knowing who your ideal audience is, ask one more important question to yourself…

  • How can I help them?

Once you get this answer, you’re all done.

Now you just have to make a plan and try to help them.

#9 Add a Strong Call to Action

Every strategy in this list is worthless if you don’t include a call-to-action at the end of your blog post.

Even if you don’t have any intention to make money from your blog, still including call-to-action is important for you.

Call-action-action doesn’t always mean you have to sell something.

Just asking your readers to leave a comment or share your post is also a kind of call to action.

You can say something like:

“Did you liked this post? Share your thoughts below”

Or

“Share this post with your friends, if you found it useful”

However, if you’re creating a review of any product or selling something through your blog post then you can also add a call-to-action button.

While adding the CTA button, you can also use power words in your buttons like “buy now”, “few copies left”, “get 50% discount now” etc.

Call to action

And you can also include a sense of urgency right under your button by saying something like “expiring tomorrow”, “few coupons left”, “closing in 24 hours” etc.

By doing so, you’ll create a sense of urgency in your reader’s minds and they will take the action faster than before.

Conclusion

Copywriting is an art and I think every marketer, blogger, or online entrepreneur should learn it.

Copywriting is not about writing an ad copy or sales.

You can use copywriting in your blog writing as well.

If you use these 9 copywriting strategies while writing your blog post then I’m pretty sure you’ll see massive growth in your blogging career.
